理工学子说 | Agnes Valencia: 随性自然，活在当下

即使中国和印尼的时差只有一小时，深圳直飞雅加达的飞机也要五个小时，如果再加上中转的时间则需更久。这五个小时，不仅意味着地理上的距离，还意味着一年前，作为刚入学的本科生的Agnes，需要适应全新的异国求学生活。

享受不同，活在当下

像绝大多数国际生一样，初来乍到的Agnes也经历了一段略显艰难的适应期，不仅是语言，还有学习上的适应。不过好在学校为国际生们提供了MPC课程(数学先修课程)来帮助他们适应即将到来的大学生活与学习。有了前期MPC课程的帮助，Agnes得以在正式课程开始后顺利投入学习。

另一方面，Agnes能够迅速适应在理工学院的学习与生活，与她积极与外界交往的态度不无关系。采访中，她提到，在MPC课程的一个月里，令她获益颇丰的除了上课或是与他人交流，还包括使用中国流行的APP(应用程序)。因此，正式开学后，她能够游刃有余地中国的学习和生活。

因此，Agnes建议大一的国际生要学会享受在异国求学的过程，因为这很有可能是他们第一次远离家乡，不过也可能是他们第一次遇到这么多新的朋友并且被朋友之间的温暖所包围。

“吃好睡好，交更多朋友，大胆拥抱新的可能。“这是Agnes对所有大一新生的建议。活在当下，是Agnes在大学里的生活态度。

努力地为了乐趣学习

Agnes对于学习的态度很明确：虽然有时候课业负担会很重，但是学生的责任就是学习，这一点从来没有捷径可走。她相信，只有努力并且高质量地学习，你一定会得到相应的回报。

朋友，是她在学习中的关键词。Agnes觉得一个人学习让人感到压抑，所以她一直坚持和朋友们一起学习。对她来说，朋友们的陪伴是一种享受，有着让人“苦中作乐”的力量。此外，Agnes认为学习中主动向同学、室友和教授寻求帮助是很必要且重要的。

当被问到为什么选择电子信息工程(EIE)这个专业时，Agnes的回答很有意思：她并不认为一个人的工作必须和他所学的内容相关联。因此，即使她的梦想是在汽车服务中心工作，她还是选择了EIE作为她的专业，因为EIE实验课能给她带来一些动手操作的乐趣。这最切合她的梦想。在她眼里，学习是一件纯粹的事情——为了其中的乐趣而学习。

小编手记

初见Agnes，我就发现她是一个随性自然的女生。她的眼里没有透出压抑或是茫然，她也绝不是一个没有灵魂与个性的学习机器。在与她的对话中，她的字字句句都渗透着自信与欢愉，深深地感染着我，触动了我。

English Version

Agnes Valencia, from Jakarta, Indonesia, is currently a sophomore majoring in Electronic Information Engineering (EIE).  She stands out in her first year of study among SSE students.

It is often the case that international students would go through a hard time when they first arrive. Agnes admitted that she was not an exception. She pointed out that international students were likely to suffer in the aspects of studying and language. 

However, the MPC offered by the university to international students was a great help to her. During that period, Agnes learned a lot by taking classes, talking to people and using Chinese apps. After finishing the course, she has already felt comfortable on campus. 

Thus, her recommendation for international students is embracing new possibilities, as studying abroad might be the first time they are far away from home; yet it is also a chance to make a lot of new friends.

Agnes also shared some thoughts regarding studying. In her opinion, studying should be enjoyable and comforting if she has friends' company. So, she keeps the habit of studying with friends to avoid getting depressed by studying alone. 

Also, it is always the students’ duty to do the assignments. Agnes warned everyone not to take shortcuts. She also assured that one's effort in studying will be paid back someday. In addition, Agnes said that we should not afraid of seeking help.

Agnes held an interesting thought about the relationship between major and career. She believed that someone’s work may not be related to someone's major, for the case of studying for fun. While she chose EIE as her major for the hand-on experiences, she has always had the dream of working at the service center for cars.
